Marilyn Duby began volunteering for Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley (MOWSV) in August of 2012 because she had seen her sister, Betty Whittle, volunteer for many years and decided it was her time to give back to the community. Marilyn feels that the most rewarding aspect of volunteering for MOWSV is being able to do something for the senior citizens in her area. She wishes that she could do even more to help. Marilyn said that she likes being able to deliver meals to seniors who are homebound and don’t have many people to talk with. She takes the time to listen to them during her visits.
Marilyn encourages others to volunteer with MOWSV and appreciates that the meal delivery scheduling is flexible and can work around her additional commitments.
Marilyn is originally from San Ardo and has lived in Gonzales for the past 40 years. She raised her 3 children in Gonzales. All the kids are now grown and her daughter lives in Carmel Valley, her son lives in Aptos and another son lives in Texas. Though the kids have moved out, her house is not empty as Marilyn’s mother now lives there.
When not volunteering for MOWSV, Marilyn stays very busy. She has been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for 1 year and previously, was a Foster Parent for a number of years. To relax, Marilyn enjoys gardening and sewing.
Prior to retiring, Marilyn worked as a librarian at Fairview Middle School in Gonzales for 23 years.
Thank you for being a such wonderful volunteer and congratulations on being our Volunteer of the Quarter!
Holiday Party 2016
Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley (MOWSV) hosted their annual Holiday Party on December 12 at Pajaro Grill, Salinas. MOWSV staff and board of directors hosted volunteers and their spouses for a holiday dinner to celebrate the season. We are so grateful for our volunteers and thank them for their service to Meals on Wheels.
