Bob Kovacs Board Member
Bob Kovacs is a retired wine director and a member of the Court of Master Sommeliers, with over 40 years of service in the fine dining industry, 30 of those years in San Francisco. Throughout his career, Bob has made a significant impact on the world of fine wine, curating exceptional wine programs and enhancing the dining experience with his extensive knowledge and refined palate. He played a key role in numerous restaurant openings, bringing his innovative approach to wine list curation and setting high standards for service and dining excellence.
His career was marked by innovative wine list curation, numerous restaurant openings, and a deep involvement in restaurant education and training. Bob played a pivotal role in elevating the standards of wine service and knowledge across various establishments, and his commitment to mentoring and training has left a lasting legacy in the industry.
In addition to his professional work, Bob has dedicated himself to community service, volunteering and fundraising for eight AIDS/Lifecycle events for the San Francisco Aids Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. His efforts reflect his dedication to supporting critical causes and making a meaningful impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Bob’s commitment to community service is deeply rooted in his family’s long history with Meals on Wheels as well. His mother and aunt volunteered extensively, and his husband John is currently a volunteer. The family have set a high standard of community engagement. Bob himself is eager to contribute to this legacy on the board of directors, bringing his management, budget, fundraising, communication, hospitality, and social media skills to the table.
Now retired, Bob continues to celebrate his passion for wine by traveling to new regions, engaging in wine-related activities, and spending time cooking at home and dining out with friends and family. His legacy of excellence in fine dining, restaurant openings, education, and philanthropy continue to inspire both peers and the broader community. Bob lives in Corral de Tierra with his husband and Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Cody Ross.
Outside of his professional and philanthropic endeavors, Bob is passionate about baseball, football, and cycling. These interests provide him with joy and a sense of balance, reflecting his active and engaged lifestyle.
