Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley was honored as a recipient of the “2025 Community Partner of the Year” award from Chispa Housing at their Annual Celebration, February 6, 2025. CHISPA is a non-profit, public benefit corporation that provides affordable housing opportunities for low-income families. MOWSV has collaborated with many community organizations to develop social/meal programs for seniors who are able to leave their homes and enjoy the company of others at a monthly lunch event.

We partnered with CHISPA during the spring of 2024 to bring a social event to the residents of Sherwood Village: SASSO - SAlinas Senior SOcial. The social combines a fresh lunch, live music and/or an activity, produce boxes provided by The Food Bank for Monterey County and a variety of senior resources presented by local agencies. This monthly program has seen attendance grow each month. The strong partnership between MOWSV and CHISPA made this all possible. The result has been happy seniors who feel valued and cared about in our community.

Staff and board members attended the event. Regina Gage, President/CEO had everyone from MOWSV come up on stage to accept the award. We are so proud of the work done at MOWSV…we are more than a meal. Thank you CHISPA for the collaboration and the honor!
