SOCOS Socials Begin in Soledad & Gonzales
We have added to our meal program by expanding our reach and creating a new monthly program for active seniors, 60 years+, who are eager to interact with others after these months of isolation due to Covid-19 restrictions. The socials combine serving fresh, local meals from restaurants, listening to live music and receiving important information about services for seniors in a safe and fun environment. We are calling this new program SOCOS SOCIAL (SOuth COuntySeniors SOCIAL). The new program was started in October and benefitted seniors in Soledad and Gonzales.
Our first SOCOS Social was held at the Soledad Community Center on Tuesday, September 14th from 11am – 1pm. Our second SOCOS Social was held at St. Theodore's Parish Hall on Thursday, September 16th form 11am - 1pm. A complimentary lunch was served to seniors 60 years+ provided by local restaurants and live music was provided by local musicians at each social. The Food Bank for Monterey County provided all guests with a complimentary goodie box filled with local fresh fruits and vegetables. A variety of senior resources were available at the social, including Alliance on Aging, Legal Services for Seniors, ITN Monterey County (Independent Transportation Network) and California Highway Patrol. Representatives from these agencies handed out information and were available to talk with seniors about their specific concerns.
These socials will continue on The second Tuesday of each month in Soledad and the fourth Thursday of each month in Gonzales. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged, please contact our office for registration details - 831.758.6325.
