SOCOS/NOCOS Socials Shine in 2024
The energy is upbeat at the SOCOS/NOCOS Socials held in February 2024 that MOWSV hosts at 5 sites each month in collaboration with community partners. Seniors are treated to musical entertainment and invited to sing along and/or dance and many participate this way. Many of the events have art projects for seniors to create, hold raffles, play bingo and more! The Food Bank for Monterey County provides produce boxes at each site and also caters some of the lunches via their Food Truck - a fully staffed kitchen on wheels! We are thankful and grateful to the staff at each site that helps host these socials: King City Rec Center; Soledad Community Center; Veterans Memorial Hall in Greenfield; Adventure Seeking Seniors at St. Theodore's Church in Gonzales; North County Recreation & Park in Castroville. These events would not be such a success if it wasn't for all the senior resource agencies in attendance each month, providing seniors with helpful and important information specifically for the senior population: Aging & Adult Services for Monterey County (IHSS); Alliance on Aging; Alzheimer's Association; Blue Zones Project of Monterey County; California Highway Patrol; Center for Community Advocacy CCA-VIVA; Central Coast Center for Independent Living; Central Coast Energy Services; ITN Monterey County; Legal Services for Seniors; Loaves, Fishes & Computers; Mee Memorial; Monterey County District Attorney's Office; Monterey-Salinas Transit; Red Cross; Salinas Health Department; Salinas Valley Speech Pathology; Tri-Cities Disposal & Recycling; United Way; VNA and Hospice; Waste Management and last but not least - Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley. Visit the MOWSV website for the monthly calendar that lists dates for each site.
We are excited to be holding our first new senior social named SASSO (SAlinas Senior SOcial) in collaboration with Alliance on Aging. This congregate lunch will begin in February and will be hosted every other month at The HUB at Alliance on Aging's headquarters on Main Street.
